Alex Mateo, Industry Manager for Smart Cities from Libelium, joins us on this episode to talk about how Libelium connect sensors to the IoT cloud and enables the interoperability of smart cities, smart devices, and sensor networks. We talked about their Waspmote, a sensor kit used by more than 2000 developers, talked about their sensor network cloud platform, and also their IoT Marketplace and learning program. Alex also chats with me about the obstacles and opportunities he see in the IoT industry today and how to make the best of these situations. Libelium took part in smart city projects, smart agriculture projects, smart water projects and more over the years. If you’re interested in what’s happening in the sensor sector of the IoT industry, listen in to learn more!
Alex Mateo is Libelium’s Industry Manager for Smart Cities, focusing on market growth and sustainable development in Europe and North America. Mateo studied Environmental Sciences at Alcalá de Henares University in Madrid. After completing his postgraduate degree in Water Resources Engineering, he began his career as an environmental consultant, working with City Councils in sustainable development projects. He also moderated important debates involving municipalities, the public, businesses, and NGOs and assessed sustainable development management. This are our main contributions to IoT market: Interoperability: Libelium wireless sensor platform -Waspmote- is modular and ready to integrate with key Cloud systems (IBM Bluemix, Microsoft Azure, Esri, Thingworx, Indra…) and LPWA IoT connectivity Protocols (like Sigfox and LoRaWAN). Holistic solution: we offer solutions for different spheres such as agriculture, parking systems, urban monitoring, waste management, environment or security & emergencies. Evangelization and education perspective: Since Libelium foundation we have been focusing on offering trainings and educational conferences to IoT and Smart Cities sector, educational organizations or companies related to new technologies.
